Security Directions: 2008's Code-Red Security Issues for Protecting the Enterprise

A Virtual Conference Presented by Computerworld and InfoWorld

Computerworld and InfoWorld's Security Directions Virtual Conference brings together leaders in IT security to discuss key issues, trends, and technologies emerging in the information security space in 2008. Some of the topics that will be covered in this online event include security for virtualization, data and access control security, employee monitoring, mobile security, guarding against criminal malware among others.



Howard A. Schmidt, President and CEO, R & H Security Consulting LLC. Former Whitehouse Special Adviser for Cyberspace Security

Howard A. Schmidt has had a long distinguished career in defense, law enforcement and corporate security spanning almost 40 years. He has served as vice president and chief information security officer and chief security strategist for online auction giant eBay. He most recently served in the position of chief security strategist for the US CERT Partners Program for the National Cyber Security Division, Department of Homeland Security.

He retired from the White House after 31 years of public service in local and federal government. He was appointed by President Bush as the vice chair of the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board and as the special adviser for Cyberspace Security for the White House in December 2001. He assumed the role as the Chair in January 2003 until his retirement in May 2003.

Mr. Schmidt holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix. He also holds an Honorary Doctorate degree in Humane Letters. .


Matthew Kesner, Chief Technology Officer at Fenwick & West LLP

Kesner was one of Computerworld Premier 100 honorees for 2008. He's been one of my favorite sources for a long time now. Matt was selected as a P100 honoree for his involvement in the development of a proprietary software tool that basically allows small groups working independently to review and share documents over the Web. The company has used this technology on over 1,000 client engagement saving both its clients as well as itself tons of money.


Allwyn Sequeira, Senior Vice President of Product Operations, Blue Lane Technologies

Mr. Sequeira is Senior Vice President of Product Operations at Blue Lane Technologies, responsible for managing the overall product life cycle, from concept through research, development and test, to delivery and support. He was previously the Senior Vice President of Technology and Operations at netVmg, an intelligent route control company acquired by InterNap in 2003. Mr. Sequeira started his career as a software developer at HP in the Information Networks Division, working on the development of TCP/IP protocols. During the early 1980's, he worked on the CSNET project, an early realization of the Internet concept. Mr. Sequeira is a recognized expert in data networking, with twenty five years of experience in the industry, and has been a featured speaker at industry leading forums like Networld+Interop, Next Generation Networks, ISP Con and RSA Conference.

Mr. Sequeira holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.


Jai Vijayan, Senior Editor, Computerworld

Jai Vijayan is a journalist with over 20 years of experience covering the IT industry. He is a Senior Editor covering information security and data privacy issues for Computerworld. He's been with the publication since March 1994 and has reported on a variety of topics including PC hardware, and enterprise technologies. Prior to Computerworld, he worked as a Correspondent covering information technology issues for The Economic Times daily newspaper and Computers Today in Bangalore, India.


Patrik Runald, Senior Security Specialist, F-Secure Security Response Lab

Patrik Runald is a Senior Security Specialist at the F-Secure Security Response Lab in the Asia-Pacific region. He has worked in IT security field since 1995 and joined F-Secure in 1999. Patrik developed and runs F-Secure's Global Virus Statistics, a system used to monitor the spreading of viruses around the world. Patrik also developed F-Secure's first automatic virus definition update tool in 1998. Patrik is a reporter to the WildList, the world's standard list for which viruses are spreading in the wild.


Scot Finnie, Editor in Chief, Computerworld
